  • launching its electric SUV, the Harrier EV, today. Positioned as a rival to the Mahindra BE 6, the Harrier EV is expected to feature a dual-motor setup, a 60–70 kWh battery, and a range of approximately 500 km

  • Design and Platform
  • The
Harrier EV is built on Tata's new 'acti.ev+' platform, an evolution of the OMEGA ARC platform, tailored specifically for electric vehicles. This architecture offers a flat floor, enhancing interior space and comfort. While retaining the bold stance of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the Harrier EV features EV-specific design elements such as a closed-off front grille to reduce drag, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and updated alloy wheels. The charging port is conveniently located on the right side of the vehicle.

  • Powertrain and Performance
  • Under the hood, the Harrier EV boasts a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, delivering over 500 Nm of torque. This setup not only ensures impressive on-road performance but also equips the SUV with remarkable off-road capabilities. In a recent
promotional video, the Harrier EV successfully conquered the challenging Elephant Rock in Kerala, a 3,937-foot-high rocky formation, demonstrating its prowess in tackling steep inclines and rugged terrains.

  • Off-Road Capabilities
  • The Harrier EV is equipped with several features to enhance its off-road performance:
  • Off-Road Assist: Maintains a stable speed on challenging terrains without throttle input
  • Rock Crawl Mode: Facilitates controlled driving over uneven surfaces
  • Boost Mode: Provides a burst of power for steep climbs or quick overtakes.
  • Transparent Mode: Utilizes a 360-degree camera system to offer a clear view beneath the vehicle, aiding in obstacle navigation.

  • Interior and Features
  • Inside, the Harrier EV offers a blend of luxury and technology:
  • Infotainment: A 12.3-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
  • Instrument Cluster: A 10.25-inch digital display providing essential driving information.
  • Comfort: Dual-zone climate control, voice-assisted sunroof, and a premium JBL sound system.
  • Connectivity: Advanced connected car technology for seamless integration and control.

  • Range and charging
  • The Harrier EV is expected to offer a range of approximately 590 km on a single charge, as indicated by a teaser showing 90% battery with 560 km remaining. This positions it competitively among long-range electric SUVs in the Indian market.

  • Pricing and Market Positioning
  • While the exact pricing will be revealed at the launch, the Harrier EV is anticipated to be priced between ₹25-30 lakh (ex-showroom). This positions it as Tata's flagship electric SUV, set to rival models like the Mahindra BE 6 and BYD Atto 3.

  • Conclusion

  • The Tata Harrier EV represents a significant step forward in India's EV journey, combining performance, luxury, and sustainability. With its advanced features and impressive capabilities, it is poised to set new benchmarks in the electric SUV segment.
